about

Peaceful Ones perform Timmy Thomas’ Rainbow Power, in tribute to the late DJ and curator Pete Woosh. A miraculous individual who used all of the time and energy he had to help others, even throughout his long-fought battle with cancer. Woosh was a huge inspiration to many; synonymous with the music and rebellion of 90s rave culture through his adventures with DiY soundsystem. In 2019 Pete gave us the 52 Card Trick, a fund raising project based on music and natural medicine. Tracks curated by Pete, released on his own label Spirit Wrestlers, featured artists from the farthest reaches of consciousness in a spellbinding catalogue, devoted to nature, love and love of great music.

Pete often teamed up with Running Circle on productions ranging from shamanic and religious music to dance-floor grooves. A few song-cover ideas were thrown around and later performed at a Birdland tribute event with Pete Beardsworth Leading the band. One cover yet to be fulfilled was Timmy Thomas’ timeless classic Rainbow Power. Timmy Thomas wrote rainbow power in 1972, when “the world was getting out of hand in terms of relations between races”, he wanted to write songs that would “make people think again”. It’s painful to say that this song remains all too relevant today.

“Pete Woosh asked me to sing this track last year, when he was still in good health. It took a few months to work up the gumption to sing such a meaningful and powerful track.” says Pete Beardsworth. Joined by Tom Smith [synth] and Tom Towle [drums], the recording took place in an urban ruin during a lockdown excursion. The trio are releasing under Peaceful Ones, a name Woosh sometimes DJd under, and will be releasing the tune on 10” with a ‘Pot of Gold Dub’ on the flip side. All proceeds will go towards Spirit Wrestlers charity funding.

Peaceful Ones sing Rainbow Power in solidarity with people of every race, particularly with the black people in America whose lives have been filled with unnecessary struggle for too long. Everyone is a part of the rainbow, and no one should be made to feel shame for the colour of their skin.
